We use a 3rd party service to send emails to which send to SMS, but agree something built in would be much simpler.

How is this still not a thing?
Different Alert profiles are a MUST.
Ability to apply different alerts to different devices.
Send alerts to different staff/email address.
Split warning/critical/resolved to different emails.
Set schedules of not only times, but days of the week too - might want business hours only on some alerts (ie not weekends so 8-5 is not enough), and immediate alerts anytime of the week for others.
Repeat alerts based on device/criticality of issue.
