With Labtech I used to use the BIOS date to determinate the age. Option 2 is to use Lenovo, HP or Dell to determine the manufacturer's date the same way these sites can tell you if there is any warranty left on the system.
The ultimate solution would allow end users to log into the Customer Portal to submit a support ticket using the same credentials as active directory.
